Our Stay at Kovalam

Kovalam, a seaside beach town aclaimed for its internationally known beaches, beckoned us this Christmas holidays. A relaxing beach vacation was the calling of the season. 🙂 Kovalam is just 13 kms from Thiruvananthapuram, the beautiful capital city of Kerala. Kanyakumari too is nearby at 75 kms from Kovalam. So we decided to spend 4 days at the Leela Kovalam to enjoy the vibes of the seaside town and throw in day trips to Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari to put in some sightseeing in our itinerary.

We drove in from Rameshwaram and reached our resort at around 4 pm (after 7 hours of beautiful car ride) to a stunning view of the beaches from the lobby. The Leela at Kovalam sure has some spectacular views worth its penny. The property is set on a cliff alongside the beach that gives an unhindered view of the Arabian ocean on one side and a buoyant view of the crescent-shaped beach bustling with shops and tourists on the other.

Ashoka Beach

The beach here next to the property is kind of semi-private one with it being a part of the larger public beach. It did not change anything for us as the entire beach was kept clean and spotless. The crowds at the other end of the beach added to the vibes of our surroundings. Squealing with excitement all around us they charged the atmosphere all around us.

Eating out @Thiruvananthapuram

The food and service at Leela Kovalam is spectacular as expected but I would also like to recommend Villa Maya near the Padmanabhaswamy temple for your lunch or dinner plans. The food is outstanding at that restored, 18th-century villa with a garden patio. The ambience is swoon-worthy with fairy lights all around the little water ponds that they have created in their garden. Try and get an outdoor seating if you can. It is all the more romantic!
